Role
This major Asset Management firm is embarking on an ambitious and critical initiative focused on creating a Center of Excellence for Enterprise Data within our Digital Information Services (Technology and Operations) organization. A new team will be formed called Enterprise Data Services and this role will be one of two leaders, reporting into the Managing Director of Enterprise Data Services.
The Enterprise Data Services team is composed of two major functional areas: Data Integrity and Data Systems. The new team will combine data focused roles from the operational integrity and the data development teams. The Director, Enterprise Data Systems will lead a small team of database and batch developers and partner with multiple teams across the firm to analyze various use cases, develop a view of data architecture, recommend enterprise solutions that align with the firm’s business drivers and industry best practices, maintain or migrate from legacy data systems and re‐factor workflows as needed. This role will help to laying the foundation of the future state data platform capabilities across the firm and potentially in partnership with our parent company.
We are searching for an individual with a solid understanding of the concepts and best practices of data warehouses and lakes, data architecture, governance, batch processing and ETL who will be able to apply these skills appropriately to an organization with the size and scale of the firm. Responsibilities
1. Business as Usual / Sustain Current Environment
On a regular basis, the Director, Enterprise Data Systems will work with the entire team to “keep the lights on”. This entails:
• Making sure key systems are up and running (Bloomberg Polar Lake , IHS Markit’s EDM and our internally developed Data Warehouse)
• Respond to day-to-day issues as they occur.
• Ensure all proper procedures and documentation are in place for all support tasks
• Work with management to transition appropriately certain tasks being performed by offshore resources that are better served by on-site staff

2. Design and Execute Future State Plan
Will play an integral role in the planning and execution of the Center of Excellence for Enterprise Data. Near and long term initiatives and deliverables include:
• Along with other leadership, define a modern data architecture, roadmap for execution and clearly articulate value and impact to the business.
• Based on business requirements, collaborate with technical leadership on effort to design the data target state by Q4 of 2021.
o Determine whether to enhance/repair current data warehouse or pursue different solutions
o Analyze our OLAP CUBE and raw benchmark feed repository (FEEDDB) and determine how it fits in with our target architecture
o Define each “sprint” to ensure that we can provide relevant improvements to data along the way, focus on the right elements and ensure that we are ready to recommend key platform solutions by Q4 2021.
• Review our enterprise batch architecture along with the senior batch developer and make any adjustments to operating model with our offshore partner. Ultimately, fully own the enterprise batch and ensure it is leveraging best practices for flexibility and stability.
• Lead the effort to consolidate and transform the firm current ETL professes.
• Lead effort to fully retire IHS Markit EDM and create a plan to divest of any legacy systems.
• Collaborate across departments and teams to identify and address key risk areas.
• Partner with Executive management to identify potential leverage opportunities.
Requirements
Required Skills (Functional and Technical)
• 6+ years of experience with data warehouses. Designing custom or implementing vendor package. Experience building or implementing vendor systems within last 5 years.
• Significant experience with ETL (Extract Transform Load) and ELT (Extract Load Transform) patterns and custom or vendor solutions to implement.
• 5+ years of experience with enterprise batch schedulers. (Active Batch is our platform)
• 10+ years of experience with understanding Entity Relationship Diagrams, SQL schema design and database architectures (normalized structures, star schemas, ODS, data marts and warehouses)
• 10+ years of hands-on SQL and at least one scripting language. (Python preferred).
• 3+ years of exposing data services/API for consumers (web service or database objects) and integrating with vendor data APIs
• Familiarity with data visualization tool (Tableau preferred)
• Demonstrated expertise around the Microsoft SQL server technologies (SSIS SSRS, SSAS)
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related technical discipline
• 5+ years of Fixed Income experience in asset management. Experience with taxable (Sovereigns, Corporates, Bank Loan, Structured Securities (MBS, ABS, CMOs ) and tax-exempt securities. Specifically, as it relates to characteristics and analytics.
• Strong foundation and hands on experience with core data concepts: SMF (Security Master), portfolios, holdings, lots, trades, benchmarks and issue/issuer relationships.
• Ability to execute multiple projects simultaneously and independently.
• Ability to balance tactical and business as usual needs while still progressing on strategic implementations.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem‐solving skills
• Ability to balance between governance/control and flexibility/autonomy in determining solutions. In general, a balanced and open-minded approach
Differentiating Skills (Not Mandatory):
• Deep knowledge and experience working with all levels of the firm to implement enterprise-wide data cataloging and lineage processes
• Understanding of the Legal entity structures as it relates to Fixed Income Instruments (LEI’s and Legal/Capital Structure trees)
• Experience with Agile methodologies, running scrums and leveraging Jira in SDLC process
• Experience with Big Data systems (Hadoop, Spark)
• Experience with AWS cloud data services
• Experience supporting Enterprise Data Management (Bloomberg Polar Lake preferred)
• Experience with Bloomberg data (Data License, DAPI, SAPI, B-PIPE)
